fire bearing mutants?
just a general question: how many mutants are there that can do things with fire, and what rea their names? Pyro, obviously, but is there anyone other than that?

well there was Feuer, who was a firebreather in the circus Kurt grew up in. he was last seen in Uncanny #407. and there was that woman from Uncanny #399. what was her name, Lady Drache? she ran the brothel where Stacy X worked. she's dead now, she only appeared that one time. and in Mystique right now, the bad guy is aparently a firebreather.

There's Legion III, one of his mutations was pyrokinesis.
Then there's Magma. Her powers are she can surround her body with a field of intense light and heat, psionically cause earthquakes, call up lava from the earth's core. Not exactly fire but close enough.
There's a few others with powers that can be considered 'fire-based'.

Rusty Collins was also a fire manipulator.
There was also Crux, one of the "alternate" X-Men the evil cerebro unit created/catalogued who had both fire and ice powers. Whether there's a REAL character based on Crux in the MU, is unrevealed.
FireStar (Angelica Jones) of the Avengers/New Warriors controlled microwave radiation which usually manifested as heat.
Then there's Sunfire (Shiro Yoshida) and his deceased sister Sunpyre (Leyu Yoshida).
And the alternate reality Sunfire (Mariko Yashida).
Vindaloo (name unknown) could emit a gel-like liquid and ignite it like napalm.
Probably alot more...

Who's this Rusty Collins guy? Not that I've heard of any of these other people before, except Feuer, but does anyone know anymore about him?

Rusty Collins was a mutant teen picked up and trained by the original X-FACTOR team. Then he and his girlfriend Skids were brainwashed into joining the Mutant Liberation Front, a terrorist organization. They were eventually de-conditioned, then joined Magneto's Acolytes. It was on their orbiting space station that Rusty was killed by Holocaust.Originally posted by blauliebeself

The Marvel Universe Sunspot doesn't really control heat at all. He absorbs solar energy and converts it to strength, turning into a charged state. He also shoots concussive blasts and flies, but it's never been shown as fire or heat based.Originally posted by hilowey

Heh, when I first read this thread I thought it said "Fire Breathing Mutants"
...so all I can think of is "Spitball" a mutant that was possessed by a Brood that could breath fire.

Thunderbird III (Okay, it's solar plasma- for all intents and purposes, same difference)
Glob Herman's body is highly flammable, and he's been seen dripping chunks of it as fire-bombs
Redneck, another X-Institute student, can generate heat from his hands
Pete Wisdom can create darts of Thermal energy
According to the X-Men encyclopedia, Heat is an attribute of Black Tom's blasts

it can be confusing, considering that so many mutants who arent really fire based yet their powers are drawn looking like fire or flames, I mean really, what is psionic energy anyway? to most artists its just easiest to have it look like fire...
why does Sunspot turn black when he charges up?:?

I'm assuming it's because he's absorbing all light into himself, to charge up. When Light is alll reflected, we see whit. When it is entirely absorbed and nothing is reflected, we see black. (As for why he has distinguishable eyes, teeth, aura, and costume details- pass that off to artistic liscence)
