Okay, I will admit I had a little trouble following this, not because of the writing, which was charming, but because I grew up without a television and have never seen the show you're talking about. Still, the fact that you managed to pull off an X-Men/TV Holiday special cross-over is a feat in and of itself.

as for this:
You can't kill off characters in a serial! And you can't kill off Kurt period!
I say: Not true. I killed Kurt in my story and look how that turned out. Rules are made to be broken.

Congratulations on your new fencing equipment by the way. Even though I've been fencing since I was 12, I still have my first foil. Do you fence with a French or German grip? I prefer German myself (no jokes ladies...). It's especially cool now that all three weapons are open to women. When I was competing foil was the only weapon women could compete in.

Have a happy new year.

Rowena, I loved this fanfic. It is my new favorite holiday story! I think I will be reading this by the fireside instead of The Night Before Christmas this year!!

By the way, zamweasel, did you get your avatar picture from the Museum of Science and Industry? I just went there and I think I saw the exact same Nightcrawler impersonator.

I'll leave it to zam to comment on this but I think he's rather familiar with the 'impersonator' who was there. :LOL

Let the trumpets sound! My internet connection is finally working properly again! Hopefully, it'll stay that way!

Yep. That's a bona fide picture of Zam herself in her own, handmade Nightcrawler costume. And it is awesome!

My foil has a French grip. That's the kind my teachers have everyone start out with. Then later on, as they get better, they can decide which kind they like best. In a few months, once I've gotten some more lessons under my belt, I'm going to learn how to use a saber. :D

Thank you all so very, very much! I really had a lot of fun writing this story, and it really makes me feel great to know you had fun reading it! And speaking of reading by the fireside...this Christmas I begged and bothered and pestered and finally got my family to agree to read this story out loud to each other instead of watching some Christmas movie we've seen a gabillion times. I made gingerbread cookies and Lebkuchen and we all took turns reading chapters. Soon we were all laughing and having a really terrific time together. That's the kind of experience that really makes writing stories worthwhile. And that's why your comments mean so much to me. Thanks guys!

Happy (belated) New Year! :D

Lucky you to be able to read your fics with your family ... mine would either hog-tie me to stop, or send me to counselling because, obviously, I'd have to be crazy to think up some of the things I do. :P

::sniffle:: I wanna foil now too. I'd LOVE to take lessons, but they're WAY too expensive. I did learn something of the Chinese sabre when I took Kung Fu, though, and that was uber fun. There's just something so appealing about swinging around a long, sharp, deadly piece of metal ... anyhoo, congrats on all that cool stuff, and I wanna see more stories from you! Cuz' you rock, and stuff.

When I read this I sprayed soy milk out of my nose all over my computer. Yeah, like they said, that's a picture of me in my avatar. However I am not at the museum - that particular picture was taken while we were promoting the exhibit in downtown Chicago and I decided to climb on one of the lions outside the Art Institute.

That is alarming. I wonder who it was... I've been working with those guys for the past 6 months so I've got a few ideas. :) I didn't hang out as much with the Star Wars guys as I did with people from other movies. If you were there on Dec 18th for some reason I'd gotten it into my head to hang out with Edward Scissorhands and introduce him to people in German except that I kept screwing up how to say "scissorhands" and would call him things like Edward "Streudel-Meister" and Edward "Scheissen-Koff". It was pretty funny.

Unfortately yesterday was our last day. The exhibit is being packed up and sent to another town today. :(

I'm sure you'll be asked to do something just as fun or you'll find something soon; your talent is extraordinary!

Oh. My.God. I was there on the 18th!!! I remeber asking my Aunt who Scissorhands was b/c i had never seen that movie!!!Do you remeber when those two teenage girls walked past and screamed 'What the f***?!' and it echoed thru the hall? Well, I was the older one of the two 12 and 13 year olds standing behind you then.

I dont blame you if you dont remeber that, I dont even think you saw us.

We were really close to giving you $20 to scare our little sisters. We decided against it.

I wish I had now.

This is sooo awesome!!

I wish I had introduced my self to you then!

If it happened in the hall upstairs with all the christmas trees then yes. The F word carries very well up there. :)

But you're right - I don't recall who yelled. Every time I work as Nightcrawler I might see between 200 and 300 people. On a busy day close to 100 of them will address me directly. Something extraordinary needs to happen for me to remember them afterwards - otherwise it's just a blur of people.

You should have. I always enjoy meeting people and I would have scared your little sisters for free.

I've started a sort of retroactive journal about my experiences working at the museum here: What I did during my summer vacation

And my original intro thread that describes the costume's construction:

Wow. I'd love to actually meet someone I've talked to at this site! You guys are really lucky to have bumped into each other, even though you didn't recognize each other at the time. I've never been to Chicago, but have any of you ever been to Providence or Boston?

Well, we did talk on the phone that one time...

I have been to both places, but it was 17 years ago. I had college entrance interviews at Harvard and at the Rhode Island School of Design. I got into both, but in then end I decided to go to a much lower profile school in New York called Bard College. (Where Jean Grey's Father was supposed to be a professor for all you uber nerds.) :)

This seems like the kind of story that would be quite enjoyable to write.

In large part, this was, as your stories usually are, awesome. The moral of the story was felt without being forced. Your characterization was excellent, and the characters themselves easy to relate to and "get along with". Except for Rudolph himself. He bugged me.

The one thing I didn't like so much (sorry!) was when, at the end, you revealed that it was all quite a sensational dream on Xavier's part. I didn't care for it for two primary reasons:
1.) It was trite, and it made the story feel a bit more artificial. Which of course it was, but you know what I mean- I hope.
2.) Some of the logistics of it were muddy, like when life ended and dream began.

That said, that's just me, and my eternal rantacious nature against hypocrisy, injustice, cliche, and automobiles*. Your story itself was a metric ton of fun to read. (As an aside: mass props for the foreshadowing- if this was your intent- by mentioning Xavier's minor disturbance in his sleep.)

I don't know if it's the cold or the unusually substantial amount of unsalted peanuts I'm eating, but I can't seem to think of anything terribly meaningful to say. Sorry.

*I mean this, too. I haven't taken any rides in months. I just walk everywhere, rather than ride along in the toxic machines.
