Hey, jogurt? I was wondering how you pronounce these phrases you've been typing up for people. If you translate anything else, can you maybe put the pronounciation in parantheses?

It's a bit difficult to explain this over the net, as opposed to simply telling/showing you in person, but I'll do my best:
ä - something like the "e" in "hello", just lenghten the syllable a bit.
ö - couldn't find anything, sorry.
ü - close to the "e" in "drew" or "screw". Or, if you know some French, try "rue" and "tútú", those fit perfectly.
Of course, the pronunciation varies with the word you're trying to say (just as an "e" in English never quite sounds the same), so this is just meant as a general guide.
Hope that helps

"Hallo Apfel, nenn mich Adam!"?
I read that as "Hello apple, call me Adam!", but my german isn't too great:D

You got that right, Elwing. Though... what the heck is that supposed to mean?! Some kind of bible reference? Odd...

Well, I don't know exactly, but if my memory serves me Adam took a good bite out of that apple, damn the consequences, and losing innocense also came into it somewhere.
Also, Stacy giving him a good clear view of her "apples" may have something to do with it... :

Jogurt, I saw it as him saying "I wanna take a bite out of you, even though I know I shouldn't"

Question about German accents
Needing help understanding the German accent.
Some people say to use 'z' in place of TH's. But what is it really like for you guys?
My guy is really great at English his German accent is nearly gone so he's no help but over time his
Th's are an 'F' sound and 'D' sounds. "Anyfing" and "I dink dat"(I think that) -I think he says it like that LOL-
So is it personal preference or what's the facts with the Th's?
That
This
Those
These
Without
Something
etc.. How would I make the adjustments to show it has an accent?

Oh...I can comment on that one! As I said somewhere in the poor lost posts before the forum crash, I'm actually a linguist and I have taught German to British and American people as well as English to German people... I know exactly what they do wrongOriginally posted by thefuzzyone

Now, the d or t for th is more the French thing...just think of Gambit
Germans either do the f or even use an s sound for the voiceless th (the th in think, path, etc.) or the d for the voiced th (as in the, they, them etc.)
...to pronounce the ö sound: Let the linguist teach you how to do that
You try to make an e sound as in "eh!" but round your lips while you do that. Voila! An ö!
Other fun things Germans do: If a word starts with the letter s, there's a good chance the German pronounces it voiced, as in "z". If you have short a sounds as in hat, that.....Germans can't do that either becuase we dont have such an open sound as the a- they pronounce it like a short e. "Hat" then sounds like "het".
Cheers,
Sandy (Lost her accent somewhere a long time ago...)

does anyone know what "sexy" is in german? i knew once, but i threw out the piece of paper it was on...
German coaching needed?
I do... It's "sexy". Only usually pronounced with a soft s (=z) at the beginning, especially if you are in Bavaria There are alternatives, but most people tend to use sexy. You could also say "scharf" (meaning "hot", in both senses ) or even (one of my favourites) "rattenscharf" (like, REALLY hot! it actually means "hot as a rat")

okay, like that makes all the sense in the world...its kinda confusing...but thanks sandy!
German coaching needed?
I have NO idea why "rats" are considered"hot", but I can tell you why sexy is "sexy"....it's very hip (another word used quite often in German today) to use English words, even when they wouldn't make sense and/or are pronounced the wrong way. Best example....the German word for mobile/cellphone: "Das Handy", mostly pronounced "hendy" ....of COURSE it's handy to have one...it's quite funny seeing Germans abroad trying to tell people about their "hendy":D
