Being Logged Off Constantly
As the subject says, I am not able to stay logged in. I click the boxes that code for keeping me logged in, but I never am. I had to log in this morning when yesterday I was logged in. I have no idea why I cannot stay logged in. I'll check my cookie setting for this site, and hopefully that's it. If not, I'm at a loss.

What did you find when you checked the cookie settings? Have you tried using another browser? If neither of those steps work, I'm afraid I'd rather be at a loss too. There's nothing that's really done server-side or the "remember me" setting; the server just tells the browser "Hold on to this cookie for me, will you?" and has to trust that it'll do it properly.
Thanks,

It was my cookies. I hope what I did worked. Thank you, HM.
ETA: Apparently not. I have no idea what's going on, so I'll just have to log in every time.

Have you tried a different browser? Do you have any third-party software such as Norton Internet Security that may be playing with requests and responses?
Thanks,

This happens to me too... but not every time. Sometimes I can be logged in for weeks without a problem then randomly one day I won't be logged in anymore and it'll do that for a few days then go back to normal O.o

You know, being logged in 24/7 is probably not gonna help issues like these. Or your computer in the long run....

It's not like I have the browser up 24/7 I'm not addicted. It's supposed to auto log me in when I open the page.

Svartfreja: I'm wondering if your problem may be because you're assigned a dynamic IP address by your Internet Service Provider; that fits with it working for a couple weeks then resetting. If your IP address is changed, then your session is deliberately reset as a security measure to prevent cross-site scripting and other attacks.

Re: Being Logged Off Constantly
I have no idea how I would find that out and it doesn't seem to log me out of anywhere else that I have set to auto sign me in, so I guess they either have crappy security or it's just my internet being wtf-y.

Re: Being Logged Off Constantly
I think I should be able to look up your IP history when I have a moment to check the database. If this is a case, there might be a way to disable tying sessions to IP addresses for certain users (I can see whether this helps JSherlock too).Svartfreja wrote:I have no idea how I would find that out and it doesn't seem to log me out of anywhere else that I have set to auto sign me in, so I guess they either have crappy security or it's just my internet being wtf-y.

Re: Being Logged Off Constantly
hm, I have a re-occurring problem where whenever I return to the site (daily, it's in my favorites) it always makes me re-sign back in. I've noticed the pattern is when I go to the site from a new wireless source, but I have had the same computer for years and I've been using chrome for about 2 1/2 years, never had this problem. Is this a forum issue? It's really frustrating because most times I have no idea I'm not logged in and if I go to reply to something, it takes me off the screen to log in, super frustrating first-world-problem thing. I'm just trying to figure out why it happens.
sidenote, I use my iMac at the office for Nightscrawlers once in awhile, always have to re-log in there too. No roaming wireless involved there, I use the student paper's router for the school internet, so I'm confused as to what that is too. Seems to be auto-log off or something...
Despite me clicking "remember me" each time I log in

Re: Being Logged Off Constantly
I'm having that problem more frequently lately. I still don't know why it does it as I only log on from home and I have a static IP address...

Re: Being Logged Off Constantly
I didn't even know that was a problem. I thought it was normal to be signed off every other day, sometimes every second day. Sometimes I stay logged in for a few days, other times I have to log in daily. I always thought it was some kind of update that had been done to the server. Never been logged in for weeks.

Re: Being Logged Off Constantly
Hmmm. I'll renew my investigation of this, though I think upgrading to a later version of the forum software may be my higher priority as it could address this problem as well.
Edit: The forum software has been updated; let's see how things go.
Thanks,
