Hell on Wheels

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is just the beginning - talk Marvel on the big screen, small screen and everything in between. DC Cinematic Universe and independent comic creations are welcome, too - The Walking Dead, Preacher, etc.

Hell on Wheels

So what happens? Do you turn the TV off after Walking Dead or do you keep it on and watch Hell on Wheels like I do?

I was really excited about Hell on Wheels when they first announced it mainly because I love Civil War shit, I love westerns, and the story of the American railroad is cool. I was hoping for another Deadwood, but with that AMC Mad Men level of awesome period presentation. I was excited for Victorian fashion with a generous helping of mud mixed with history and blood which is pretty much exactly what I got.

So the show is gorgeous to watch right down to the little details. I can't get enough. I want to walk around on the set and touch everything.

I'm not sure about the story though. All of the characters are thoroughly unlovable.

Anyone else watching it for anything but the preview part of the next episode of Walking Dead?

I'm going to wait for it to hit either Netflix or come out on DVD at a cheap enough price that I don't mind watching it. I'd like to say I'm watching it (I really wanted to) but the first 20 minutes of the 1st episode had me nearly half asleep. I couldn't do it. It was late, I thought the show would keep me awake, but it's an introductory pilot, I shouldn't have expected so much.

Point is, it has a lot of potential for me, a lot of things I find interesting in a tv show, and a genre I really dig. I know I'll like it, I just... Can't do it right now. Between 'Breaking Bad'/'Venture Bros.'/'Dexter'/'Futurama'/'Daily Show'/'HIMYM'/'Metalocalypse'/'SouthLAnd'/'Game of Thrones'/'Boardwalk Empire' ... I really have no more room on my DVR. LOL!

It's not you.

The story puts my husband to sleep every time. Even I've had to back up and re-watch things because I didn't understand what was going on the first time.

It does have a lot of promise, but I worry the writing may be lacking.

Yeeeah, that's kind of the problem I've had. It looks good, and I wanted to like it because I like Colm Meaney (*cough*Treknerd*cough*) but when I tried to actually pay attention I found myself going.... "yeah, I don't care. Hurry up with the Walking Dead teaser!"

I watched the first episode on Netflix, loved it.

I only bothered because someone told me they had lost hope for the show until the season finale of the 1st season. Then, apparently, the second season premiere was so awesome, the guy I know actually told me he was heavily recommending it. This is the same guy who got me into "Breaking Bad", so naturally, I gave it a shot.

So far, so good.
