I loved #1 and I happily recommend it. It's pretty funny. Poor Kitty, poor Toad, and poor, poor old Wolvie! So here's kick off of the appreciation thread! Did you read it? What did you think?

Wolverine and the X-men
I have to say this was one of the best X-Men comics I've read in years, and one of the few that actually felt like the classic X-Men stories that initially drew me into the franchise.
There's just the right mix of action, drama, and light-hearted humor, compared to the constant angsting that clung to almost each and every X-Men book during the last few year.
Even though the book carries the name "Wolverine" in its title, he never over-shadowed any of the extensive cast, and Aaron managed to juggle a lot of characters in a single issue and give each one a distinctive voice.
The pacing was superb, with no panel space wasted - it's amazing how much story and character develppment you can squeeze into a single issue if you really try.
While I found the Hellfire brats incredibly annoying in Schism, they work well here. The Schism event was about a serious philosophical rift among the X-Men, which is why over-the-top kid villains using alien brain slugs just felt misplaced. They fit the lighter tone of WatXM much better, however, and actually pose a fun dilemma for Logan, whose firm "keep the kids safe" stance is effectively challenged by a bunch of kids he now can't properly fight.
The school roster and class list in the back of the issue were just pure win, too.

Yes it does feel old timey. It shows things like fun, anything-might-happen adventure, consistently written likable characters, and maybe in time even a good story. You know, the sort of things the X-men used to be about before Marvel decided that death, "edgyness" and gloom are better for business.
I can't wait to see how it turns out. It is particulary nice to see Bachalo's fluid style, he just nails every character and facial expression. I know his style is a bit of a love or hate thing, but it's all love for me.

What Starfish said. I thoroughly enjoyed the issue, and the little extras in the back added to the fun. There were plenty of giggles to be had. I sure hope Aaron keeps this up.

LOOOOVEED IT!!
Best X-Book I've read in years!
Holy cow!
SPOILERS!!
THE BAMS?! HILARIOUS! Whether they're the same as the ones from the past or not, I especially love when they grab the whiskey! HEE!
Awesome how each of the characters have a role in the school! As shown in the hilarious back-pages of some kind of "Yearbook". I guess that concept, originating from First Class comics, worked out. Can't wait to see what other hilarious things they do with that.
Chamber? Back? With Powers? When did this happen?
And can Lockheed speak? Haven't really read a lot with him before... I always got the impression, no.

He can, but I can't recall seeing him speak anything but his native tongue. He definitely understands English, and Kitty was conversing with him in a recent ASM arc. I assume he communicated with language in the short-lived S.W.O.R.D. series. Maybe he uses some kind of translation device? And can Lockheed speak? Haven't really read a lot with him before... I believe Lockheed used to speak to Pete Wisdom in Excalibur....but he'd only speak when they were alone together, and when Wisdom told people, no one believed him.

Nope, it was reality altered. When things got put back, not everything was put back exactly as it was.Ult_Sm86 wrote:Wasn't Age of X a what-if scenario though?

How convenient.
Does that mean other mutants who fans might want to see later can just-so-happen have their powers back later?
And is Sean Cassidy still dead or did "Age of X" fix that too?

Nope. To describe it more accurately, it was a mini-universe with an altered history into which Utopia residents were dragged and altered to fit. Only those present on Utopia at the time were subjected to it, and those who came out of it physically altered were shown. I think there were a couple others standing with Chamber in the relevant panels, but I can't remember who. The cause was absorbed, so it shouldn't be doing anything anytime soon.Ult_Sm86 wrote:How convenient.

Anyone else who wants their powers back will have to go see Wanda, provided she's still performing restorations after Children's Crusade. I haven't been reading that, though.
He's still dead. Nobody got rezzed. The AoX deaths of some (Nightcrawler, Maggot, etc.) were mentioned, and Sabretooth's got shown in a tie-in. Some who are alive were established as dead in AoX: Beast, Havok, Polaris, Mystique, Multiple Man, Siryn, etc.And is Sean Cassidy still dead or did "Age of X" fix that too?

HOORAY!
Thanks EL!
I think I'll find myself starting to enjoy Rachel soon...
Also, ICEMAN TO THE RESCUE! Love when he looks all chunky like that. When artists portray him as just a shiny, glass-colored human shaped guy, it's not as extravagant looking.
Also, how has Logan never (accidentally?) imposed his feelings for Jean on Rachel? Think that'll happen now?

What the hell is going on in issue #7??
Is... is Kitty preggers?
What the hell are the Bamfs doing helping her an covered in X-2 tats? And if you guys remember from the teaser promo, the X-Men look like they get shrunk down and injected into Kitty's blood stream... i guess this is the issue that happens but what in the HECK is Iceman supposed to do when he's microsized in someone's bloodstream?

I've only read No. 1 so far, but I second everything Star said - this is the best X-comic that feels like an X-comic I've read in ages. Hank had me cracking up and Toad... heee!
I read bits of the class schedule at the back and Scott said it sounded like classes we'd have in the Scrawlerearth game. I had to agree.
The comic shop was out of issue two, and the first issue I got was a reprint, so hopefully that bodes well.

Just finished issue #3.
End of the story arc (for the most part) and I gotta say... this is easily becoming one of my favorite titles.
The appearance of Matt Murdock had me ROFL'ing as well. This is just... a fantastically written book.

Ah, forgot to comment on #3...It's fantastic, go get it! Just so many cool character moments. Wolverine deals with an enemy in hilariously atypical fashion. I thought #2 was a little weaker than #1, but this just establishes it as a great book. Great art, great writing, great set of characters.

He's been in the title and being made fun of quite a bit. It's very humorous.
But thankfully, Jason Aaron has promised that he is aware of the Toad fanbase, and he has not forgotten him. This makes me believe he's going to come out shining someday.
I like that he begs Logan to join them at the school, (during Regenesis) and Logan continually turns him down until Toad's pleading becomes "I'll even be your janitor!"
And now he's the janitor.

So that last issue? Incredible. Just, awesome. The cliff hanger ending, the alternate future timeline that Deathlok saw right down to the fight between Bobby and Logan over how Warren got the way he currently is.
I gotta say, Iceman's always been a favorite, but he's taking some real interesting turns lately. His commitment to his friend Warren, his passion for educating and being an X-Man, putting young mutants first, and his ability to stay positive regardless of the circumstances, all of these things have him climbing to the top of my favorites list.

Alex's review is nice and all, but I think he's way off base if he was expecting just another "fun-loving" book. With Wolverine at the helm, there's always going to be some darkness. Jason Aaron is of course a completely capable writer however; and he'll deal with the dark parts of Logan's side-job just as he will deal with the student body. Sure getting to know the students will be fun, but we don't pay 3.99 each month to see a bunch of students read a book when they all have super powers.
They need to get into some shit, and I would be more than happy to see Logan let something major slip through his fingers and have it effect his new school.
Also, Tears pointed out to me that Rachel has gone back to "Grey" not Summers as her last name. Which sort of makes sense on a lot of levels and I'm glad they did it, if for no other reason than to prevent confusion between her and Hope Summers.
This book, for me, has everything that I need. I wonder how long the "BAMFS" are going to be in the background and when Aaron expects to have the characters deal with that though... I feel the longer they stick around the more he may be leading up to something with them.
And yet still no reaction from anyone here or in any of the reviews I've read...
Quentin Quire wearing the Phoenix logo in an alternate future? That didn't get anyone curious?
