12/13 Announcement: Planned Downtime for Nightscrawlers Chat

Post by HoodedMan »

On December 13, 2013 there will be planned downtime of Nightscrawlers Chat as a new server is provisioned and DNS records are updated. Please be aware that any changes to chat services records (e.g. NickServ registrations, ChanServ modifications) may be lost. I apologize for the inconvenience but hope you look forward to a server with a better architecture and OS as much as I do. :)

Thank you,

I have actually shut down services to make sure nothing will go wrong with the database; this should have no really problematic effects other than channel operators not getting opped automatically.

Thanks,

Any estimate on what time the downtime will be at?

I have just changed the DNS records to point at the new server and am starting to bring things up. Our records specify that these records should propagate in an hour or less but it could take more depending on your Internet Service Provider.

Edit: The server is up at the new address. Obviously there'll be some kinks to work out (everything has to be recompiled) but the availability is there.

Edit: Looks like everyone's migrated successfully to the new server. I shut down the old server to facilitate the transition and everyone reconnected to the new server immediately. Please let me know if there are any problems.

Thanks,
