Fathers rights to their child.

Post by fourpawsonthefloor »

One night stand evidently negates your right to be a father.

I can't say that I totally agree with this. I think that the father has a right to at least know. I think the mother has the right to not tell her family though. So its a conundrum.

I think people have the right to know, regardless. It seems to me she didn't want to bother the father with child support or anything, which is nice of her. I think going to the courts to keep someone in the dark is a bit extreme, but each to their own.

I could see not wanting to tell other relatives and such, but eventually the child, the child's doctor, et cetera, may have to know.

But yesterday, the judges decided the father had no rights over the child, who is now in foster care, because "he was only a one-night stand".
In my opinion although it was a one-night stand, the father has as much rights over his child than the mother has.

I love the wording of the first sentence in the article!

It was a one night stand. In the father's place, I'd probably want to know but I have to come down on the court's ruling in this case. Once you start getting into the sticky area of the "rights" of accidental fathers you bump into the potential problem of women being forced to bear and birth their drunken one night stand accidents because the father has a "right" to it.
