CPSIA fights literacy

Post by Freak »

First, read this: http://www.wo.ala.org/districtdispatch/?p=1573

Then think about it: This law includes everything that could be intended for children.

-Begin rant

Obviously this would also include comics, them being perceived as mainly for children nowadays. So, if you have to test the ink, the colours, the paper, and later the complete product again, by a third party nonetheless, how long will it take for prices to rise and a 3.99 comic will be a steal? This will obviously kill quite a lot non-mainstream books, publishers will be less willing to do risky projects that could be awesome, but also crash.

Apart from politicians seemingly believing in alchemy, meaning that two products that don't contain lead will create lead through mixing them, this obviously is, to say it frankly, retarded in a lot of other ways.

You're sick and need a special drug on a constant base? Well, if children could take it too the producer will have to bring in a third party to test it on lead, even if it's homeopathic. And we all know that the pharmaceutical industry is humane enough to cover this increase in costs on their own, right?

Oh, your daughter is riding a wheelchair for five years now? Well, tough luck, you'll have to let it be tested on lead, on your own costs, obviously. What, you got laid off and can't afford the tests? Well, you want your child to die of lead poisoning on top of that?

And before anyone points out that I don't have any say in this for not being American: A country kicking their citizens, especially the poor ones, isn't a matter of nationality ;)

-End rant
