New Forum Platform: Issues and Questions

As I'm sure everyone can tell by now, we've migrated to a new forum platform! Hopefully I've made the change as seamless as possible, but I know there's always more to do. Please post any issues or questions you have here!

Some FAQs:

1. Where's Today's Posts?

Click the View new posts link on the board index. This is actually a little more convenient than Today's Posts, because it doesn't give you posts you've already seen! Always remember you can subscribe to topics you're really interested in and/or click View active topics to see what's been getting a lot of posts within the last week.

Known Issues:
Holy spam, Batman!
Add a link to chat
Fix chat banner
Restore pruned topics
Update members' avatar dimensions
Have multiple stars for post-based ranks
Fix encoding issues in posts
Fix lost content in posts
Reparse BBCode on fixed posts (server is fighting this SO hard)
Add a link to the gallery

Thank you!

Okay because you said to remind you in here, the user avatars next to posts look so teeny tiny on this forum compared to the old one!

I don't know how to edit my previous post but during some poking about on the UCP I found the thing that went odd with the avatars. You have to define what height and width the picture is yourself on the page where you upload the avatar. The max width and height is still 100x200 though.

The maximum width and height, respectively, under XMB, was also 100 px x 200 px. I can guarantee it won't get any larger than that, but I am also aware that some avatars were made into thumbnails by earlier conversions. I will work on those.

Okay, here's two I noticed:
the "View active topics" link is only available on the main page. This is my most used link, actually.
the "View active topics" link apparently does not work. The only topic that shows in it is this one. There have been posts in other topics, but these are not listed. This gives the impression that the forum is deserted, but this is fortunately not the case:)

Oh, all the activity turned out to be spam. Oh, dear:(

I was just looking things over, and... Is there not a link to chat, or am I just missing it? It's not really a massive deal for me since I use conversation, but I was just wondering.

no actually a link to chat is a big deal. It should be massive and huge and blinking and bright red and in your face if you ask me ;)

Lol, I meant it wasn't a big deal for me, but I figured it might be for others. ;)

I've heard other complaints about the no link to chat issue, so yeah, we can pursue that. I wouldn't think it'd be impossible to do. ;)

Seems like we're missing some of the RP characters' Bio pages as well. More importantly my boys' Wade (Deadpool) and Max (Quill).

We're missing a lot of the RP bio pages, including mine. It seems to be archiving older threads, but when I look at the control panel it says the archiving/pruning function is off so I don't know. We'll have to look into it more.

Ah, any posts that weren't in Cockrum Corner and were more than a year old were pruned as part of the migration. It was discussed and seemed like a good idea at the time but obviously there were other forums that should have been exempt. I'm looking into a way now to selectively move some more from backups.

Also, I'll add a link to chat. Tomorrow (Sunday) is my "Nightscrawlers all day" day. Top of the agenda: Spam, chat, avatars, restoring old topics.

Yeah, I do remember that discussion, but I thought we were exempting the RP (and the staff and administrators forum). Seems like the rest would be okay to par down.... although if others have an opinion on keeping old topics please let us know.

Thanks for all your work HM! I'm working on learning the new platform ;D

The chat link is back on the header on the Nightscrawlers theme.

I wish you hadn't pruned the creation forum either. I was working my way back through the fanfic because frankly, there isn't anything happening with Kurt at the moment that I care to read and it's the main reason I have been coming to Nightscrawlers in the first place. I was in the middle of a fairly long story that now I won't be able to finish. Is there any way you can restore that forum?

Yeah, we can (I think, it's more HM's area since he has the backups). Apparently, we really weren't aware how often people were going back to old threads.

Not that important, but I'm guessing a couple of the games like TPAM were also deleted? Just asking because I didn't know if we should just start a new thread or something......in case anyone wanted to play one.....which no one has in over a year......so I guess on second thought never mind LOL

Just an update so you all know I'm not ignoring this issue: I spent six hours or so trying to migrate the old threads into the new forum platform without affecting threads that have already been migrated; unfortunately, there are some problems with conflicting thread and post IDs. I have to rethink and rewrite part of the conversion. It'll happen soon, I promise.

Thanks,
-HM

Lots of old character bios in the rpg side are still missing chunks of info as well as weird symbols and stuff in different places

Encoding issues have been fixed! Please let me know if you see any more old posts with weird characters. There should be no encoding issues in the future, pretty much no matter what you do. :) (Paste from Word documents, do what you like.)

There's still bio's missing info, and one's with weird characters in them

Are they newer ones? Per the Site Announcements, please click the exclamation mark (report post) button on the appropriate posts. It's the easiest way to queue them up for my attention and give me a link immediately (since I don't have one this way).

Cheers,
