I'm not sure if this belongs here or in the Non-NC related section... It is sort of Nightcrawler centric, even if he's not "on screen"... Oh well, Mods please feel free to move.
I decided to paint some shoes! I've seen loads of people do it online and decided to give it a shot myself. I'm not sure I did a very good job, but hey... it's only my first shot.
And in case it isn't very clear; The thing on the side of the shoe is half of a Sentinel face.

The inside says "MARVEL" but I didn't get a picture.
Edit: The colors came out funny in the pictures., but you get the general idea.

That is so awesome! They remind me of the "Iron Fist" line of shoes- Always wanted them, but never had the guts. Love the bold graphic design and bright colours.

hmm, so they're more like sentinel shoes than NC shoes. Although you will be the cool kid on the block walking around with "Bad Ass Mother Fudger" acronym on them

Uh oh. I didn't even think about that!:doh! Maybe these will be a "wear to the comic shop only" shoe. Haha.steyn wrote: Although you will be the cool kid on the block walking around with "Bad Ass Mother Fudger" acronym on them

If you're a Nightcrawler fan, the cloud gives it away, so maybe it is just a comic book store shoe, but I like them! BTW, what kind of paint do you use to do this? Just regular fabric paint?

It's acrylic paint. Fabric paint only works on canvas or cloth shoes, these were pleather. You just have to prime them with gesso first, and after you paint them, spray them with a gloss varnish. That way the paint won't chip or come off. It's really easy to do.

Those are really cool! Just regular gesso and acrylic paint? What kind of gloss varnish - liquid or spray?

I used spray, but I think liquid might work too. The spray worked really well though.

Beautiful work, and yes, I'd be interested in knowing how the shoes hold up.

Well, I've worn them for 5 days now and they are still holding up. There is no cracking or peeling on the paint anywhere. Of coarse I've not gone too far off the pavement, but they still seem pretty sturdy. I even wore them through some puddles, because I wanted to see if that would damage them, and It hasn't done a thing. I did, however, spray them with a bit of Rain and Stain first, just to be safe.
I think that after a few layers of Varnish they actually become pretty resilient as far as shoes go. I'll update again if anything catastrophic happens to them.

If you click them together and say "There's no place like the San Francisco Comic Con" do you wake up in the SFCC?? Specifically at the X-Booth?

It's good to hear they're still going strong, Trigger! When you said acrylic paint, I thought of cracking too but the varnish seems to be doing its job. Great work, I hope they last a good while.
