Slam Poetry!

Post by Angelique »

Lately I have gotten into the poetry slam habit. Nowhere near as dry as poetry or sedate as literary readings can be, the poetry slam involves competition judged by random members of the audience and encourages the audience to boisterously voice their approval (or disapproval) of a poem and/or its scores.

The result is that poets create more poetry as art that is meant to be performed for a listening/watching audience rather than merely read.

Here's one of my examples. Disclaimer: The shameless promotion of Untold Stories from Iraq and Afghanistan, riffing on comic book stereotypes, as well as the ripping off of Gilbert and Sullivan is shamelessly intentional!
