It worked! Just threating a little action goes a long way. Other administrators have done the same thing and got results.
There is eventually going to be a mod not to allow automatic signups. A human person has to type in a group of letters and numbers before they click "register". This will stop all the automatic signups for sure. 
(would have u2u'd you guys but the u2u's are still down.
