A Polish newspaper mistakenly identified "Pedobear", a notorious internet meme, as one of the mascots of the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver

On one hand I want to laugh myself silly, on the other.... ><!

Wait, so it's okay for newspapers to take any image off of the internet and publish it?

Fair use for logos for non-commercial use, however yeah... they should have checked that they were swiping a correct image...

A number of newspapers have used The Onion as a news source...I'm just sayin...

I laughed so hard. SO hard.

But is it non-commercial use when you have to buy the newspaper?

Well, Pedobear is surrounded by all the cute little mascots; so I guess that got that right.

Yep, because it's news reporting. Newspapers don't make their money from selling the actual newspaper, by the way, and there is a sort of a legal wall between the business end required to fund operation and the journalistic end. At least in this country, the press has a whole amendment of the constitution protecting their actions if they're reporting the news.

...all that said, most of us do ask before using some weird logo... exactly to make sure things like this don't happen.
