Nice!

Why did you guys have to go and be so damned talented? And have the publisher recognize you for that talent no less! The nerve of them.

If you'd had the gift of foresight and known that it was your own skill that was going to end Nightcrawler at 12 issues, you could have started putting mistakes into your drawings years ago. ;)

I suppose it's more that there aren't enough people willing to buy a Nightcrawler series in monthly format no matter how good we are or how good the book is. :(

I attribute a lot of it to Nightcrawler showing up when quite a few other solo X-People had books out (Gambit, Rogue, Wolverine, Jubilee) and a bunch of team X-titles were out. I cannot even remember how many times I heard from a customer I was trying to recommend NC to something like, "Too many X-books! Just keep it Uncanny and maybe one other. Why even bother with these solo books?"

Those were the Marvel faithful customers, too. I'm not even going to post what the rabid Marvel haters would say.

Exactly, Idsunki.
It's also a timing problem.

I agree with you. In many ways this book never got a fair chance. That hiatus was presented as an opportunity to bring it back with a lot of hype and build up and distance from the lesser solo series and they simply didn't do what they said they were going to do for the title.

But regardless, I have to admit that if the book was something that the mainstream comic market wanted, the sales would have been stronger right away. Marvel did nothing to boost it, and a lot to hobble it, whether they meant to or not, but the public yawned and 'poo-poo'ed it as just another solo X-Series as well.

I think there will be some more interest in it once the huge summer X-Crossovers have come down a little bit and both trades are out. I really see this as an easy sell in a different environment, and the trades will make it doubly so.

Also, Nightcrawler is supposed to have an increased role in X-Men Decimation which could help.

So I guess I'm just really pinning my hopes on a new series, hopefully with the same creative team.

No kidding.

The release of #7 was like "Shh. There's a new issue of Nightcrawler coming out. Don't tell anyone."

if I ever have a really big secret to keep, I'm going to hire Marvel marketing to tell everyone about it. :

Still, I think the 12 issues we got did so many great things for his character that I can't really complain much.

I am so disappointed by this cancellation!!!! The most recent story arc, especially, left an impression as being one of the best Nightcrawler stories ever. But it was vague, in regards to whatever the hell Hive was going on about. Darick has said that there will not be another solo series, in which we could possibly see whatever the future has in store for Kurt. I tend to believe him, as depressing as it may be. So I guess my point is, after all this ranting, Darick, can't you leave a memo on Claremont's desk or something and tell him we need to know what happens next? (Just kidding.) :D

After Rogue's series got cancelled, the "southern belle" got Sunfire's powers.
I wonder if Claremont will use Kurt's soulsword now -though I doubt it...
> Darick : and no possibility for a Nightcrawler/Wolverine series ?? ;) -yeah, we never quit... :D

For all I know they may have another Nightcrawler series planned right now, all I am sure of is that I'm not involved with it.

As far as a memo on Claremont's desk about what happens next,.. the memo belongs on ROBERTO's desk. It was his story, not Claremont's.

Roberto laid the way for a mini series he wants to do. We'll see if that gets published. I have my hand in the air to draw it, but I don't think that's going to happen. :bamf

Sometimes Marvel reminds me so much of Microsoft it's... Uncanny. :ooh:

It always seemed that right when I got my team working on something really cool and relavant (like a redesign of the Windows user interface that people could actually use) we'd get some random billg* memo that changed all our jobs around.

After a while you didn't even get mad anymore.

Man...but Darick, you draw Nightcrawler best! :-(

Maybe you should have slipped in a few mistakes here and there, started drawing him with 2 tails, or something...

I'm not going to give up hope, Captain Bummer. ;-)

AYE AYE AYE AYE!!!!! I remember seeing Darick's sketches of Kurt, before the book was released. Oh my god, I think I fainted from bliss. Even looking at your avatar, Darick, makes me smile and think, "Damn, THAT is how they should've been drawing him all along." I'm not blowing sunshine up anyone's butt here; I mean this sincerely. I will honestly miss this book, and the artwork contained within, when it is gone. :)
