I didn’t get to read it because then the owner would have to chase me out of his store as I tried to take off with it. I’m crazy like that. I did kind of look at it though. You know a page here a page there then setting it back down before I started to get to into it. I must admit that a certain x-girlfriend in it made me pout a bit. The owner of the store asked me what I was mumbling about. It went along the lines, “Kurt is so way better then her. He could have any women he wanted, like me.” Yah… um… :blush anyway, it looked heavenly.

Michael Diaz doesn't think you're all stupid.
NIGHTCRAWLER #2 $2.99 (Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa / Darick Robertson)

As much as I think I need another X-Men title like I need another hole in my head I have to admit that every once in a while there is something that isn’t a complete waste. I’m not pointing any fingers at any of the other ancillary X-books, I’m just saying that the cream rises to the top. Examples of this are Rucka’s run on Wolverine and the underrated Bishop series. I know we’re only a single issue in, but if things keep up like they did on the first issue I think I might be adding Aguirre-Sacasa and Robertson’s Nightcrawler to that least.

I don’t know all that much about Aguirre-Sacasa, but after this first issue I like his writing. However, I think the factor that the most influences my favor for this book is Darick Robertson’s art. I really liked his work on Wolverine but his style seems to be lending itself quite well to the blue elf-ish look of Nightcrawler.

I dig it.

MICHAEL DIAZ has good taste.

DARICK i'm also really enjoying your current work on WOLVERINE.
Re: The ish with the first of KURTS' two guest appearances in that title. Panel that gave me chills when I saw first saw it?

The one right after WOLVERINE in essence asked NIGHTCRAWLER if he would be the one to stop him should Logan ever 'cross the line'...

LOGAN : "Who would stop me? you?"

KURT : "No, but I would die trying...."

The look you put on NIGHTCRAWLERS' face...! :eek
That panel gave me goosebumps!

Yeah, that was my favorite moment of that issue. It's why that friendship is so important to Kurt's story, and why I think an occasional Logan appearance in the solo series is not exploitive, but necessary.

EXACTLY! Before that panel, from the disdainful almost scornful look on LOGAN's face you could almost imagine him thinking something like "yeah, elf like you could even hope to stop me.." :rolleyes

And then the looks on LOGAN's face in the panels after that...wow. That was an intense moment becuase you could feel that WOLVERINE knew that his best friend was as deadly serious as a heart attack.

It was kinda like Kurt had pulled a Wolverine on Wolverine and I found myself almost cheering after reading it! Only His best friend could get away with something like that. And DARICK you captured the moment beautifully cuz I could feel the tension jumping off of the page at me!

I have kind of a touchy question....has the series been selling so far or is it too early to tell?

I bought about 4 copies of the 1st ish and intend to buy at least 3 more of ish # 2. (yes, I am a hopeless fanboy, so sue me... :P )

A NIGHTCRAWLER solo series is loooong overdue and so far it really is one of the better X-universe spinoffs. Hopefully it's out-selling some of those other titles as well...?

I got to my favourite comic store the DAY issue #2 came out, and they only had three copies left. I can't say I'm surpised ... the series is GOOD!!!

*** SPOILER WARNING FOR #2 ***

I can't go anymore without saying this ... those few few pages of issue 2, where he's trying to save Barney Franks ... it was FANTASTIC! The motions, the expressions, the dialogue ... it was so purely Nightcrawler, I almost cried. I almost cried too, because it was just so damn moving.

Darick, you and Roberto are doing such a wonderful job on this ... it is by far the best series I'm collecting now. It's about time we had someone who could write Kurt without exploiting, changing or mucking around with him. And it's about DAMN time we had someone who could draw him to a perfect tee.

I can't express how wonderfully relieved I am that you guys are doing so well ... the greatest travesty would have been for Marvel to promise us a Nightcrawler series and then put it in hands that have no feel for the character. I'm glad that's not the case, because the book is an absolute treasure.

CAN'T WAIT FOR ISSUE #3!!!!!!!
:D happiness :D

The series sold through at about 67,000 for the first issue, coming in at #36 I think in the top 50.

No idea what the orders are for issue #2 yet, but I wouldn't be surprised if we are hanging around this number until the series gets it's audience. Retailers order ahead of time before they have any idea how the book will do or what the quality will be.

Marvel says they like what we're doing and the buzz is that it stands out fom the other solo titles they released around the same time. We should be solid through issue 12 at the minimum.

(And thanks for the praise DoomInABox!)

Why thankees, y'all

*bows* I'm blushing. :blush

Seriously, there are but few artists that can really bring out Nightcrawler as well as Darick can. Damn, but I wish I could draw well enough to work for Marvel ... :bawl

Heh ... if there's one thing I do too much of, it's heaping praise on people I admire. But then again, I never heard anyone complain about it ...

I can't wait for issue three (coming to my store in three days! EEeeEEEEeee!!!). I'm pretty sure everyone will have so much to say about it, poor Darick will be blushing permanently from over-praise.
