Batman cartoonist Jerry Robinson dies

Sounds like it was Joker who lost his pop.

Yeah, that's true Slarti, but if you look at it like this... without Joker, the entire image of Batman almost goes out the window. His insanity caps off the "insane bar", and makes Batman a manageable/sellable hero.
If Robinosn created Joker, he, in some way, had a hand in creating the Batman we know today. It's very sat to hear this. R.I.P, Jerry.
Also, he is the father/creator of Robin. (Dick Grayson, to be exact, unless there is in fact a name he never gave Bruce's young ward and it is credited to a later creator.)
