Whoah!!! On that SSAC#40 one, I especially love the way you showed her eyes through her sunglasses. It's so beautiful/natural looking. That is so cool! *Sigh* If I tried to do that, it'd look like she was wearing those novelty sunglasses with the hologram eyes on the lenses...

Thanks, Garble--to tell the truth, it took me a lotta years to be able to pull that off. But sometimes I'm a slow study.

Here's a piece from my Legion days. Some of you may have seen this before, but this is the 'Outsiders' presentation piece. Of course, you may recognize a certain blue and furry guy who--at the time--wore yellow and black.

I've decided to go back to putting up links. Putting the art directly on the page is using up too much space, and makes the copy run off the page.

Here's another piece that, over the years, has acquired the unfortunate name 'Slurpee Art'. I did it just for fun, originally, but Marvel used it in a b&w X-Men book (I don't recall the title). Nightcrawler, done as a separate piece, appeared on the letters page.

Marvel later used it in The Marvel Cookbook (yes, really!), but they felt that John Proudstar's tombstone was out of place and they had me replace it with a bag of groceries.:laugh:

See the next post for my response.

Later, while Paty was putting together the art for the second series of Slurpee Cups, she chose this piece to represent the X-Men. So, alas, the 'Slurpee art'.

After Marvel had me remove John Proudstar's tombstone and replace it with a bag of groceries, I couldn't resist the challenge. I sat down and did this phony cover to explain it all...

Actually, it would have made more sense if they'd had me transform the tombstone into a pizza.

Here's the first of a couple more of my favorite pages from Soulsearchers & Company. This one depictes a coma-dream happening to Peter P. Peterson, the group's accountant and holder of a magic carpet bag that (magically!) contains whatever's needed to meet the current situation.

Peterson's in a coma here. The doctor has told the others that if they could speak to him, tell him stories meant to make his dreams less interesting or more frightening than real life, that he might wake up. Unfortunately, Peterson's real life is duller than anything he or anyone else can imagine, and he keeps twisting his dreams to make himself be the hero.

This page was inked by Ricardo Villagran, who also inked some of my Futurians stuff. Ricardo is one of the best there is. He makes my stuff look real nice. :D

Wait'll you see the splash (literally!) page where she and Baraka share a bathtub! HOO! ;pant; I'll show you that one later. But for now, here's a page starring SSAC's resident Centauress, Hot-2-Trot. And don't get started with me, I didn't name her.

The story: SSAC had been asked to find out who or what was killing cattle and horses on a dude ranch near their headquarters town of Mystic Grove, CT. Hot-2-Trot has been on stakeout disguised as a real horse. She finds out more than she bargained for.

And WOW, Jill, that was fast service on my Avatar request! You da' BAMFETTE! :flash:

LMAO!

BTW, here's one last post for the evening. I already put this one up on X-Fan, but I'm trying to show it to the Legion forum, and the link to X-Fan doesn't seem to be working.

This was the cover for Legion Outpost #6, the Legion Fan Club's APAzine.

Hey Dave, I went to pick up a Soulsearchers trade paperback today, but they only had collections of the Amanda Conner issues - which are beautiful, granted, and I got one, but did they ever do a collection of your issues?

Wht dave did not tell you...because he did not remember...was that when i did the Slurpee cup, I inserted Nightcrawler into his bamb blast...HE IS THERE!!!
As designer and paste up person of those cups, I have a full set of both the first issue and the second issue Slurpee cups. they were wildly popular...and occasionally you see some up for auction...I have never seen full sets. I got them! I remembered putting Nighty in the group and went to check and Yes...there he is in full color!

Sadly, no. I asked editor Richard Howell about that once or twice, but I got the impression that sales of Amanda's TPB (and yes, I love her stuff too) didn't warrant doing any others.

Whoops--I found another Nightcrawler sketch. This was a first concept rough for the color 'rooftop gargoyle' piece I get my Avatar from.

Yeah, I am, Josh. Though I missed the last season of Deep Space Nine and most of Voyager. One of my problems with Voyager was that I liked the female crew members, but the only male crew I really liked was the Doctor.

I catch Enterprise when I remember it's on, and I do like the show.

I was a first-run fan of the Original Series, of course, and I did tend to identify a lot with Captain Kirk--although in later years it became embarrassing to watch Shatner doing some of his antics.

One night recently on the SciFi channel I saw Shatner interview Stan Lee. You wanna talk about embarrassment! The Diva interviewing the Used Car Salesman. That's what it looked like. Embarrassing, and very sad.

I have about fifty episodes of Original Series on tape, all seven years of Next Generation, six years of DS9, and some few eps of Voyager. I started out to tape Enterprise, but I kept forgetting it was on, and then realized that I never go back and watch all the other Trek tapes I have anyway--except occasionally the movies--so I just decided to forget it.

You Nightscrawlers may not know I did some Elvira stories too. Here's my favorite page: Elvira's evil station manager, Roselyn Wyck, is trying to force Elvira to leave the station by making her do all sorts of bizarre merchandizing and publicity stunts. The page has her wearing a very familiar costue...

This page was beautifully inked by Ricardo Villagran. :D

Here's a page from one of my sketchbooks. Main feature is a head shot of the lovely Claudette Colbert as the 1930s version of Cleopatra. BE WARNED THAT THIS PAGE HAS SOME MILD NUDITY.
