I know of the biblical Samson, but it just doesn't seem like it'd make for an interesting power for a comicbook character.. that'd be like having a mutant whose only power is to turn water into wine: while it's amazing in the bible, in a comicbook it's not so much..

I don't know...he'd be pretty popular at parties :D

And there ARE some ‘lame’ powers out there...that's why they coined the terms Alpha and Beta mutants (and Omega, but I'm not going there)...Alpha mutants are basically any mutant that can use their powers offensively or protectively, Betas have powers that are basically just good party tricks. The X-Men, and related franchises, are all pretty much Alpha mutants, Doug Ramsey was probably the only exception…being able to speak and understand just about any language is a fantastic gift (wouldn't mind being able to do that myself), but not really very good in a super-powered fist-fight…wounding with words does not accomplish much in the literal sense…

Can't forget Sammy "Squidboy" Pare.. being able to breath and see underwater is a fascinating gift, but it's also one that has a writer say, "Let's have a giant tree kill him off!" :sammy

You win this one, my friend (and only due to what day it is ;) ) but the joke-off will come one day that will probably get us booted off the site for bringing a thread off-topic with sarcastic remarks:LOL

Back ON-topic, anything interesting happening in this arc? I read the first issue in Waldenbooks, but my recent exile from comics has kinda left me in the dark :(

Plenty happened...

Kurt bamfed ‘em all away from the mansion and the ‘port got pulled all the way to Central Park, which kinda knocked him for a loop (but strangely had little effect on the others). Betsy was all concerned for him, holding him and soothing him…which he seemed to be enjoying quite a bit :naughty. Betts went on to talk about Jamie and his school chums…The Foursaken…the remainder of who all got mysteriously wiped out just before Jamie went nuts …then the Watcher gets strangely chatty and tells them all about the First Fallen, sort of the balance to the Phoenix Force (which we all thought was the anti-Phoenix…silly us). Then the three dead members of the Foursaken show up and start wreaking havoc and snatching souls with floating salamanders. The X-Men start fighting them and the three Foursaken (they already have Jamie) quickly catch them all, except for Claremont’s current Mary-Su, Psylocke, they can’t see her you see, so Kurt says it’s up to her to save the world…the First Fallen starts to claw his way out of a big hole in the ground so Betsy frees all the souls the salamanders stole…and everyone with a name (ie X-Men and Foursaken) gets dragged into the big hole :surprise

Did you guys see in the previews of #475 it's got one of those little boxes with the team's headshots in it (Chuck, Alex, James, Rachel, Kurt and Lorna...and it completely obliterates poor Deathbird...the logo doing the same for Lorna...you think the artist would take that into consideration when pencilling it)? Haven't seen those in a while...

I won't see it until Saturday, if I can even be bothered to go down town to get it...I'm pretty much disillusioned with ALL my comics at the moment...I'm pretty close to cancelling most all of them...the Marvel ones anyway...

I'll go ahead and advise you to get X-Factor, even if you may not know the characters that well, it is the best book out there, and I think Brubacker may do a good job in Uncanny so I look forward to his first issue.

I'm looking forward to Brubaker's run as well. His Deadly Genesis was pretty good, and the previews and comments from him I've seen are pretty agreeable. I don't know about X-Factor being the best book out there, but it's been really good for the nine issues so far (and the Madrox trade as well). There's good Marvel stuff, just not always the big name titles (get Nextwave and Runaways!).

I meant X-book for the rest of them (DC, Vertigo, Image) I don't know and can't say....
I've been wondering about Nextwave....

As a Madrox fan aren't you maybe a little bit biased? :smirk And I know the characters...there was a time I got every, single X-Book (Uncanny X-Men, New Mutants/X-Force, X-Factor, Wolverine, and so on)...of course there were fewer of them then...and I can't say I was a big fan of Deadly Genesis...Vulcan almost as big a Gary-Su as Ultimate X-Men's Magician...and it looks like we're gonna get stuck with Darwin who was my least favourite of the characters introduced through those little back-up stories...

Of course I'm bias.....just like most of the people here were bias towards the Nightcrawler comic , also isn't Darwin a Lifeguard ripoff? you got Wolverine.?...dang you did get all of them.

Dude, I'm so into Warpath being on the team.....I need to go get the latest Uncanny...

*crosses fingers for NEX/Uncanny crossover* How great would THAT BE!! Or is it too much to expect TJ and James' relationship would be remembered by whomever is writing it??

The new Uncanny is actually really good. It looks like a fine set up for a year long story arc. It's in space, which means that there won't be so much confusion of 'why are the uncanny team, the astonishing team, and the adjectiveless team all at the mansion but they never seem to help each other out or show up in each other's books?'

Another couple of positive points for this arc - No Wolverine. He's on Earth, he's doing his thing. Nothing against the character, but he's in enough places right now. Also, Nightcrawler will be at least co-starring. He's the 'Xavier loyalist' on the team, which does make a certain amount of sense. I did like his parts in Deadly Genesis, as well.

All in all, I'll be picking up Uncanny again for the first time in awhile.

It was okay for a set-up issue. I found it pretty dull going, but... it's just set-up, right? I'll be checking out the next one, anyway.

I don't have a problem with Warpath...I have a problem with Marvel touting him as the new Wolverine…for starters, we don’t need a new Wolverine when we’re getting so much of the original…and when the publisher keep pushing the “Look, kids! He’s COOL!â€

Wait, how is he being pushed as 'the new Wolverine'? Brubaker said in an interview that one of his first ideas for his first arc was a story without Wolverine.

Maybe I just missed something?

Or maybe it's just the impression I get...not sure where I got it from...but this ad certainly says they're pushing him as 'the next big thing' to me...

Image

Who knows...maybe he will be...but I still think it should be on his own merits not because it's what Marvel think we want...

Nothing wrong in my eyes with pushing a character as 'the next big thing.' It's simple marketing - show off this new character, get him on to people's radars so they'll care when he does make an appearance.

This exact thing happened with Speedball and the New Warriors when Civil War was being hyped. Other than an awesome-but-underappreciated mini-series, no one knew or cared about the New Warriors. In every interview he got the chance, Quesada mentioned how much he wanted to kill off Speedball or wanted to give him Thor's hammer or whatever.

The point is, without that bit of hype, no one would have cared except for fans of the New Warriors from way back. Honestly, I would rather them over-advertise a bit than not advertise at all. Look what happened to the Nightcrawler ongoing - I'm sure people on other boards would be annoyed as hell if all Marvel did was plaster ads for the series in all the books, but it would have gotten the word out. I want people to pick up the new Uncanny - it's got a great creative team, a cool space story, and it's focusing on some tertiary characters we don't get to see often, plus some old favorites.

I guarantee the amount of hits on the Marvel Universe site for Warpath have skyrocketed and that new people are interested in this character. I fail to see how this is a bad thing. Unless, of course, he does end up being another cheap man's Wolverine. Feel free to ignore everything I said if that happens.

Ok, space? I hate space! I'm not sure I can stick through 12 issues of space....however....I LOVE WARPATH!! I reaaaally do. He's so far the hilight of the book for me, by far.
