All New X-Men

I'm starting a thread on all my comics apparently...

All New X-Men brings the Original 5 X-Men to the present to try and change the outcome of the world. MINOR SPOILERS. It is a really interesting concept. "If I had only known..." personified. Think about it. Almost 50 years into the future. Angel turned Archangel turned empty shell. Jean dead. Scott turned into the very villain he has vowed to protect humanity against. Beast is blue and dying. And Iceman is really the only one who isn't totally effed up. Wouldn't knowing the outcome of their actions cause them to alter the outcome? Or would seeing your past self bring light to how much you have changed? Really cool read. Like back to the future, only with the X-Men :)

Again, only on issue #2, so catch up if you haven't already. It is worth the money.

On issue four now... great character development. Cyclops now vs Cyclops then. Interesting to say the least...

It seems really silly.

I'm not so sure I'm interested, but Starfish showed a cover of an issue coming up down the line with a completely different, far more awesome cast of "All New X-Men".

The title of "All New" is ironic, I get that ... but I still feel their "return" is cheapened by having them interact to such great lengths. It's a bit silly. Seems like a timeline-resetter.

A retcon, if I ever smelt one coming.

We can't be sure this is a "new team"... it could be a sub story or a battle that gets intercepted by Scott(s). This is a variant, after all...

And of course it's a retcon! This is kind of the point of Marvel Now!, to phase out, revamp, and introduce new creative teams, books, characters, etc... the biggest example is Amazing Spider-Man. Also, Uncannny Avengers brings back Red Skull! I will drop All-New once it loses my interest, but until that happens I will enjoy the old/new dynamic.

So #5 came out yesterday. Very interesting Hank-Jean interaction. Jean sees her fate through him. I am really excited to see this develop.

I've so far only read the first two, but I enjoyed them. One thing that does confuse me is if they've established for sure that these are the 616 characters or are they another alternate (but really close) timeline's Scott, Jean, Warren, Bobby and Hank? It could really go either way. It could be a funky paradox thing that totally retcons things and loops time around, or it could be a parallel universe. Probably will depend on how sales go, lol.

It seems like a set-up for a massive retcon. Already they're undoing a lot of stuff...

Including this...
MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS

I am not a big fan of the above possible spoiler, however it does mean Beast is not dead...

It's been basically 10 years since Morrison had him redesigned into a "Cat-Beast" and still non-fans, Old School Fans who have drifted away, or casual paserbys to the kids series/movie franchise have no idea who the hell Hank is when they see "Cat-Beast". There is nearly no correlation between the two versions of the same character for most people.

It's a decision that, like taking Oracle out of the wheel chair and back in the suit, will piss of some people, but get back a lot of previous fans/regain new interest. More pros than cons for Marvel's decision than DC's however because their decision with Barbara slighted physically handicapped fans of the character, eradicated an entire character (Steph Brown) out of the continuity enraging her small fanbase, and set a precedence that "We write the stories so we make money not tell the story that works best".

Cat-Beast just pisses off cat fans, really. Or Morrison fans. Not a lot of either of those about to drop a comic because Beast's appearance changed.

I am a fan of that spoiler, because I never cared for cat beast at ALL. I read Morrison's run when it was first out, and unlike a lot of longtime fans I liked a lot of what he did. But not that. I'm happy to see him heading back to a more ape-like design, although I think they need to refine things a bit ... he's got a bit of a pin head. :shifty

I love this, does anyone know what this is from? It came up when I googled "All New X-Men"...

Also, there is a small solicit about March's All New X-Men #8 & #9. Seems like the Avengers are not too pleased with time-traveling X-Men from the past. They've had enough Phoenix to last them a life time, now an (arguably) unstable Jean is brought to their present? The girl who started it all?

Thor & Iron Man are not gonna roll over too lightly with that.

I believe the picture is the cover of a future ANXM, but I don't know which issue. And I agree with the pinhead comment. That's mostly why I'm not a fan. I do like the shift from Cat-Beast.
