With the promise that an X-Man will die in “X-Force” #26 and the actual execution (no pun intended) here, it doesn’t come off as much more than a cheap stunt to make this story seem bigger and more important.[/quote]

What the book has also failed so far to explain is why it's so important to get Hope to Scottopia in the first place. I'd think the best way to endanger the entire mutant population in one fell swoop is to bring Bastion's prime target to the very rock on which most of the mutant population resides.

Because Cyclops has "faith"? As I've said before, Nightcrawler had more backing up his faith in God than Cyclops had that Hope would save all mutantkind. Even Nightcrawler's faith is absolutely no excuse for sending other people to their deaths, in my opinion. Cyclops has less excuse.

Cyclops's whole "we gotta protect her" thing is b.s.

What exactly does he think he's gonna do for her? Kid doesn't even apparently HAVE A POWER. Like literally, this kid is basically NOBODY. Except she registered as a mutant after M-Day. So you're going to waste the lives of the few mutants who are left for a little girl who doesn't appear to have any power at all at this point? Smooth, Scott.

They keep making the analogy to a chess game, and I think that for once, they've hit the nail on the head. Scott keeps making sacrifices of very important "pieces" for the king -- a piece that is supposedly very important but is basically useless.

It's like they're not even people to him anymore -- just things with certain powers that need to be used certain ways. What is his problem?

RIP Kurt Wagner. You were the character who brought in me into comics, who introduced me and inspired me. Now your death has sent me away again. Wherever you are in the Marvel Universe, I hope its someplace pleasant.

Quote from my son: "It's too bad it took this long for me to realize how cool Nightcrawler is."

We continued discussing exactly what my son thought was cool about Nightcrawler, including his powers, how he's a genuinely good guy, and so forth. And then he said, "And Cyclops is really kind of lame."

Hmm, Nightcrawler as a Horseman? That's an interesting discussion, (Of course I just watched the end of "Supernatural" tonight! :P) And I have to admit, it would be kinda satisfying to see him overthrow the mighty Wolverine as "Death".
