Manga artists joining the Marvel team.
And Just so you know, Kia is doing Uncnany and Thor, not the series, but a short story in the Marvel Double Shot #1 (first week of november it should be out)

Thanks for the info! the article is interesting but i feel a bit overwhelmed with all those manga in occidental comics, as i say in the chat earlier, is like eating pizza with soya sauce.

I love Manga art. I believe that most manga that I read rely upon telling the story with their artwork rather than words, and tend to create rather dynamic pages. I would love to see more manga artists draw for marvel. I'm really excited about Kia Asamiya's run with Uncanny X-Men, and I saw a drawing he did of Thor and thought it was amazing.

well... my opinion is art is art. it matters not if you can slap the label 'manga' on it or not, some art is good, some is bad, it doesn't matter which country it originates from. i will never ever like an artist jsut because they are 'manga' or they are 'american' or 'european' or any other classification you could put them in. if i like it i like it, simple as that.
what i don't like about this article is not necessarily the style fo the art, some of it is very nice. it's that Marvel is going out of its way to find talent in JAPAN when there are plenty of extremely talented artists locally, and some of it does not fit the titles it is being used with. if these artists had submitted thier art with every other artist submitting to Marvel, and no one reviewing knew where they came from, would they have still been chosen?

Well, I've never been a huge fan of Asamiya's work... Dreaded big noses.

So the priest thing is nearly fixed. Now this:
Marvel.com and the DotComic preview for Uncanny 416. Honest to God, Asimaya's art is making my nose bleed. I know it's a *fabulously* unfashionable and politically incorrect thing to say, but I really--REALLY--don't like manga-style art in mainstream books.
Anyone got a hankie? Kleenex?

Ouch.
Coulda lived a long, happy life without seeing it come t' this....
And a great big "BOOO" to the associate editor at Marvel who thought this was a good idea.
That's the HUGEST problem with the Internet, isn't it? No matter what the object, topic, color, song, etc., etc., there's ALWAYS someone willing to say a. "It's okay.", "I. Like. It.", or "I'll get used to it."
Well, I DON'T like manga-style art. That's a DON'T the size of Delaware, folks. And I don't much cotton to the idea of "getting used to it" in Uncanny, especially now that Austen's made the writing so enjoyable.
Let's think: How does Matt Murdock read comic books...?

Manga is the same for me as any other art style... There are some of the style I like, and some I don't. People tend to just automatically categorize everything that comes out of Japan as one big style, when all the artists are really VERY varied (although, yes, there are some definite stylistic differences that more Western comic/animation styles).
Saying that, I'll say I'm not a huge fan of Asamiya's work. Biiiiiiiig noses. Don't like the biiiiiig noses. >_>

Well, the big noses I don't mind, but I'd like to see what's possible.
And NightFollower,
Garney did 410-412
Philips did 404, 405, 407-409, 413-415
Which one?

Morales did 403 if I'm not mistaken. Can't remember who did 406, but I think it was him too.
Nope, Morales was Inker, it was Lopresti who did 403 and 406.

I collect a few manga, and the ones I do collect I absolutely love. I know not all manga is that great. Heck, I have seen some that is just really bad. All I meant to say was that I am an Asamiya fan and that its hard not to be excited if someone you like is drawing a comic with your favorite character in it. I have realized a huge trend of bringing over japanese artists here, and in that sense I can see a lot of upcoming american artists may be getting overlooked because of it. I don't like that at all, so I understand what you mean Bamfette.

Sean's Kurt looks like his hair blew up. I really don't like it. The manga look I think I like, but I really loved how they drawed Kurt for X-Treme.

I like Philips, he;s damn good, and my favorite artist. But, I think I might enjoy Kia's work.
I mean, big nose whoop-dee-doo, I like Kordey while others don't. I like Kurt's hair by Wood and Philips.
And, I'm in agreement with Jill. But also, art could be good, and not tell a story, which must happen for this *es Christopher Priest*

well i personally enjoy Sean style, i think is awesome (check Follower current avvy! ItS Phillips! i love that pic and i made the avvy ) in X-treme it was cool also, i think it was LaRocca who did the art but i didn't like the issue , i think art and story have to be in perfect sinchrony no matter if the art doesn't look perfect in "standar" or "average" ways, and i think between Kya and Sean are a big contrast i like very much.Originally posted by T.J.
