After a review of our forum and now chat rules by the Board's staff, we are pleased to announce Nightscrawlers' new and updated rules of conduct.

You'll note not much has changed, as our number one rule always has been and always shall be respect.
FORUM AND CHAT RULES:

1: The Golden Rule Rules Here. Nightscrawlers is a community based on mutual RESPECT. It is the core of this site and it allows us to have honest open discussions here and build real and lasting friendships.

Members must respect the opinions, works, and posts of others, as well as the authority of Nightscrawlers forum/chat staff, at ALL times. Posters don’t have to agree with everyone and everything said in forum posts or in chat. However, it must be understood that whether the work of a professional comic creator or a simple fanfic or statement from a member of this forum, every person’s work and opinion is due respect. Be polite.

In particular, no personal attacks of any kind will be tolerated. Threats made against the forum/chat itself or its posters will also not be tolerated. These are our only zero tolerance rules.

Any disagreements between forum members either in posts or in our chat room must be taken to a staff member. We will work will all involved to reach a resolution that everyone can live with. All disciplinary actions and complaints are kept confidential.

Disciplinary actions are handled on a case-by-case basis, but after formal complaints, posters may be placed on warning. Warnings may or may not include temporary suspension of chat/posting privileges. Indefinite chat/posting bans may be instituted after three warnings have been given for unacceptable behavior.

2. We don't need any other rules. We do however, have some guidelines we'd like you to follow while you're here.

GUIDELINES:

1. Please do not double and triple post; it breaks the flow of the conversation and can make threads unnecessarily long. If you find you need to add to a previous post and you're the last poster, there is an "edit" button in the upper right. Clicking edit will allow you to add to your post, fix typos, or even delete an accidental double post.
- Edited posts are stamped with an edit flag showing the time and date of the edit. A little note mentioning the reason for the edit is optional and always appreciated.
- Please do not edit posts to change your original meaning if the discussion has already moved on without you, this makes for a confusing, non-linear thread.

2. When making a New Topic:
- Take care to post in the correct category to ensure that as many people as possible can read and respond to your post.
- Please use the search function before posting a new topic. Nightscrawlers is many years old. Topics such as Nightcrawler's origin story, how he teleports, and his relationships to other Marvel characters have been discussed before. It's always great to see a good discussion revived, so feel free to post in those older existing threads.

3. Please limit yourself to one account. Multiple accounts (especially using them to post to yourself) will result in BOTH accounts being banned. If you are interested in changing your screen name, or have forgotten your password, please contact the forum administration via u2u.

4. Nightscrawlers is a very old forum community and thus has a certain amount of recognition amongst comic book fans, editors, and creators. Over the years we have enjoyed the company of comic book artists and writers, most notably the late Dave Cockrum and his wife, Paty. It is important to us that we continue to maintain these good relationships as they contribute directly to our mission “Creators - Friends - Nightcrawler.” As such, creators are due the same professional respect as any other member of this forum and are not to be personally attacked.

5. We are a community based in friendship and creativity brought together by the shared love of a comic book character and as such, no single individual may "speak for" or "represent" the site as a whole. If you are interested in doing outreach with fans and/or creators on our behalf, please contact the site administration.

SIGNATURES/IMAGES

While a legal embedded image from a current comic review is a nice addition to a post, sometimes those images are so large as to make text in the rest of the thread unreadable. Embedded images must not be so large as to distort the average window size.

Please keep your signature simple. Signatures are an important part of establishing a forum identity, but they can also make posts difficult to read if they are large or load slowly. Nightscrawlers membership spans the globe and not all of us have awesome high-speed broadband connections. It's okay to make your signature represent you, but remember that it will appear (and therefore have to load) every time you post.

- IMAGE SIZE LIMIT: 800 pixels wide x 100 pixels high
- TEXT LIMIT: Without image = 8 lines. With image = 2 lines
- FILE SIZE LIMIT: 1 MB

Signatures/images that fall outside of these guidelines may be deleted without warning.

CHAT-SPECIFIC CONSIDERATIONS

As outlined above, respect rules in the chat room as well.

Chat is a more free-form experience, and it is also where the ScrawlerEarth RPG is played. Any and every topic of conversation can and may arise in chat – from general chat about comics and movies to adult discussions of politics, sex, religion, current events, etc. Treat any interaction you have with other users on the Nightscrawlers chat as if it were a conversation among friends in real life, and choose you behavior accordingly. If you find yourself offended by a topic of conversation, realize that just as you have the right to be offended, the other chatters have just as much right to discuss the topic of offense. You may either ignore such a topic until the conversation changes, or you may ask, politely, for a change of subject. If that request is not politely respected in return, then the behavior and accompanying incident logs may be reported to Nightscrawlers chat staff.

As stated above, no personal attacks of any kind will be tolerated. Threats made against the forum/chat itself or its posters will also not be tolerated.
