Dave's perspectives on X-Men
Yes, as a matter of fact, I was/am a Hitchcock fan. North by Northwest is my favorite. You don't know the Futurians? I'm hurt! And it has been optioned as a movie property, though there doesn't seem to be any movement toward production... Futurians was a superhero group published firrst as aa Marvel...

Dave's perspectives on X-Men
Oddly enough, I ddon't think I ever had any sort of long-term view of the X-Men. I didn't think in terms of overall mission--mostly, I left it to Chris to do that. I had occasional story ideas--such as Kitty's Fairy Tale--and I'd pass them to Chris to use as he saw fit. I see it as a failing in my c...

Dave what do you think of John Byrne's penciling of X-Men?
It's pretty typical of Byrne. He made some such insensitive crack about Joe Quesada going to Florida because his mom died, and got himself banned from Marvel. And he pissed off Christopher Reeve fans everywhere by sniping--on the event of Chris's death--that Chris was not a heroic figure in spite of...

Yeah, she does. She didn't like the 'pawns go first' crack, and she thinks Mags ought to be wearing armor by now. And Mags is supposed to be the bad guy, but who really is? The people with the cure, right?

Her name's spelled with ONE T, and is pronounced PAY-tee. And yes, she's seen X3. On the whole, she liked it, though both she and I were very upset with Magneto for abandoning Mistique just because she was no longer a...oops, I guess that's a spoiler, isn't it?

Dave what do you think of John Byrne's penciling of X-Men?
In 2004, while I was in the hospital fighting for my life, Byrne made a crack about my work on his website which really pissed me off--and infuriated my wife so that she banned him from the Dave Cockrum tribute book: he said, 'Well, if you put enough lines down, SOME of them are BOUND to be in the r...

I don't read X-Men any more. Kurt and Rachael?!?
And Paty DOES think Magneto's worthy of Storm. She did some art after I drew UXM #150 featuring Storm and Magneto. It's some of my favorite Paty art.

Since when is she supposed to be lesbian? And as for the mohawk--SHE didn't do it, Chris Claremont did.

I hate the whole idea of marrying off Storm. And there's no man in the Marvel universe worthy of her (except maybe Nightcrawler).

Dave Cockrum's Star Trek art
My favorite inkers over me were Ricardo Villagran, Rudy Nebres, Bob Wyacek, Bob McLeod, and Joe Rubinstein. Favorite inkers who never inked me were Wally Wood and Al Williamson. Well, it's not strictly true that Woody never inked me: one afternoon at his studio in Valley Stream, NY he persuaded me t...

Dave Cockrum's Star Trek art
I liked Sam Granger's work. It was strong and professional. Having said that, however, I have to note this one thing: I had a habit of penciling faces with hard edges and Dick Tracy-like chiseled chins. When I inked myself, I'd smooth those hard edges off. Sam emphasized those hard edges. If you eve...

Thanks, Samy. The concern expressed by fans like you has been a great help to me throughout my illness and recuperation. Being permanently on kidney dialysis, I'll never be fully in good health again, but even so I feel pretty good these days, and hope to return to work on a limited basis sometime i...

I ddon't have any pencil xeroxes of my Trek art, more's the pity. And I don't want to say anything against Klaus Janson's work, because I admire him tremendously--but having said that, I agree that he's not compatible with every penciler. He doesn't work well with me, nor John Buscema, either. At th...

I appreciate the concern, Panz, as I'm sure Chris does, and I'm glad to see you back after such a long absence. I haven't had a chance to taalk with Chris since his illness, but Paty has, and Chris assures us he's on the mend and doing everything possible to make a full recovery.

No, of course it's not coincidence. The Black Cat design was proposed as an X-Man, but before we could use her, two or three other female 'cat' characters popped up, and I added the cape and white hair and weather powers and altered her into Storm.
