I would definitely say that this is due to maintenance on our host, then, and unavoidable. I really hope that it is fixed as soon as possible and hopefully our host will give us as much information about our current status as possible.

It sounds like you accidentally set your /show value too low. Please note that by default, only 25 messages will be shown. If you changed this value to too low of a value, it was saved in a cookie. Backups are now being made every day at noon, and I download backups for the whole week every Saturday morning. An automated system just saves the most time for all of us, and it ensures regularity. Here's to saving time!
